The script for this strip took a lot of workshopping, and it's still not great. In an interview about Touch of Evil, Charlton Heston once said something to the effect of every possible script for a police procedural has already been written. I suppose he wasn't entirely wrong, though this was before Blade Runner, so the genre hadn't quite yet gone fully cosmic.
